Seated Towel Calf Stretch
How To Do a Seated Stretch With Proper Form
Sit on the floor with your legs extended. Support your back against a wall if needed.
Loop a towel around the ball of your foot, holding each end.
Keep your leg straight and gently pull the towel towards you.
Hold, relax, and breathe into the stretch.
Loosen Stiff Calves and Ankles
Tight calves can quietly limit how your ankles bend and how comfortably you walk. The seated towel calf stretch gives you an easy, supported way to lengthen the lower leg, using a towel to guide the foot toward you while you stay seated and relaxed.
What It Lengthens
This stretch lengthens the calf muscles, mainly the gastrocnemius, along with the deeper soleus and the muscles that support the ankle. Keeping them supple improves ankle flexibility and walking comfort.
Doing It Well
Gentle and well suited to plantar fasciitis and stiff lower legs, this is easy to do anywhere with a towel. Keep the knee straight for the upper calf, draw the foot back gently, and avoid yanking on the towel.
Mistakes to Avoid
- Avoid stretching cold muscles by warming up beforehand.
- Ensure the towel is positioned correctly around the foot and avoid pulling too forcefully, which could strain the muscles.
- Maintain a straight leg to effectively target the calf.
